Volunteer Opportunities at Salem

At Salem Elementary School we love volunteers!  We want to utilize your talents both great and small in order to enhance the educational experience of all of our students.  Please remember, school volunteers are people from all walks of life, who are willing to give their time to the enrichment of students. Below you will find a list of ways you can be a part of Salem Elementary!

Classroom Volunteers work closely with classroom teachers and staff, assisting in various projects, preparing instructional materials and working with students.  Examples might be reading with students, sharing a special skill or running copies.

Granny Squad is a group of grandmothers or grandmother-types that provide support for teachers, staff and students by making copies, helping at lunch, or decorating bulletin boards.

Mentors spend time with students and being a positive role model on a regular basis to encourage students to achieve socially and academically.

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Volunteers work with our school and help coordinate exciting events for students, teachers and staff. Events may include the Fall Carnival or Teacher Appreciation Week.

Reading Buddies read with students on a regular basis, providing examples of reading fluency and build relationships with students while helping them learn the value and joy of reading.

Special Activities Volunteers help at specific school functions.  Examples might be a classroom/school-wide project, or the Fall Carnival.

Tutors assist individual or small groups of students in various areas of study by reinforcing basic skills.

Watch D.O.G.s are fathers, grandfathers or father figures who assist in various aspects of our school while providing a positive male role model to all students.
